Paintballs are really just simple round balls with a gelatinous skin and a dyed liquid center. The paint is specifically made to be non-toxic and safe to ingest and to leave a large bright spot on a target so you can clearly see what has been hit. If you play paintball at a commercial paintball field, they will provide paintballs for you. If you play on your own, you will find many more options and you need to shop according to the size or caliber of your paint marker, the weather conditions in which you'll be using the paintballs and the type that work best with your gun. Some of this may be best done through trial and error with various manufacturers to see if any one paintball improves accuracy and is less likely to break in your barrel. (Also remember that ceramic barrels, although somewhat more delicate are self-cleaning!) Once you establish the size of your paintball marker barrel and whether your marker works best with oilier paintballs or with paintballs of a specific manufacturer your choice will be simple. A side note: make sure if you buy in bulk you know how to store your paintballs!
